Konjunktur in Deutschland und Europa: Flassbecks Bashing des Statistischen Bundesamts erscheint weder fundiert noch gerechtfertigt
Der Ökonom Heiner Flassbeck schimpft – nicht zum ersten Mal – über das Statistische Bundesamt. Seine erscheint aber weder fundiert noch gerechtfertigt, der schrille Ton noch dazu kaum zielführend.
Flassbeck unterstellt dem Statistischen Bundesamt, dass dessen vorläufiges Ergebnis des Bruttoinlandsprodukts im zweiten Quartal ein Produkt der Phantasie sei, und dass das Amt seine Berechnungen nach den Erwartungen der Politiker ausrichten würde:

English Summary: The analysis updates the analysis on economic activity in Greece published in Februar 2016 with the most recent unemployment figures published by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and the economic activity indicator calculated according to the method by Claus Köhler, former member of the German Council of Economic Experts. A method the author employs regularly to estimate the development of economic activity in a monthly analysis of the business cycle in Germany, France, the European Monetary Union as a whole, Switzerland and the United States.

English Summary: Against the background of protests by steel industrialists as well as by trade unionists and an inquiry by the European Commission opened in May 2015 the EU has raised anti-dumping duties against certain steel imports from China and Russia. However, our comprehensive analysis on foreign trade between Germany and the EU 28 with Russia and China shows that these anti-dumping duties are not justified and that there are rather homemade reasons responsible for the desperate cries to protect the European steel industry.

English Summary: WuG regularly analyses the business cycle so far for Germany, France, United States and Switzerland on the basis of the monthly data of the labour market (unemployment=supply of labour; job openings=demand of labour). Out of this we calculate the economic activity indicator developed by Claus Köhler, former member of the German Council of Economic Experts. The result needs then careful interpretation and allows a very early and reliable estimation of the business cycle. So far this analysis is only published in German language under subscription.
